May 2020 update

Dear Friends,

We believe that you and your families are doing well in this unusual time for all of us. Who could have expected that everything would suddenly stop- schools, nurseries, hotels, restaurants, other institutions, businesses, etc. We don't know the answers to many questions, we can only not lose hope and trust God to strengthen us, both mentally and physically, and lead us through this strange period. My wish and great hope were to meet with you, but it did not happen, this time. We believe it will be possible at a better time.
In short, how we are doing:
Like all over the world, schools, churches, restaurants, and other businesses have been closed in Kenya. Therefore, our school remains closed too. The 2nd semester was meant to start at the beginning of May, unfortunately, the quarantine/ lockdown period got extended, according to the ruling the quarantine/ lockdown is to last until June 6th. A ban on moving between districts and major cities was also introduced. Curfew from 7 pm was also introduced. Some sources claim that schools will open in June, although in my opinion, this will not be the case. The number of new daily cases of Coronavirus is higher every day, compared to the initial statistics. As of today, there are more than 1,000 cases in Kenya, including over 50 deaths. Only God knows the real number because it is impossible to reach and examine the sick in all areas, especially those in smaller towns.

Very few schools have started running the curriculum online, most children are still waiting for the physical opening of schools. The reason is that not all schools, including parents, are equipped with the necessary materials to provide over the internet teaching. In Kwademu, unfortunately, it is impossible, parents and guardians do not have smartphones, internet access, besides, most of them did not complete education and would not be able to carry out lessons for their kids. We hope that this quarantine/lock-down period will end soon and life will return to normal. Although the children are not at school, the building work is progressing slowly. I don't remember if I mentioned it earlier, but along with the water reservoir tower plan, an idea came up of using this project to build bedrooms for teachers. Most of the teaching staff are from outside the village, it will be much easier for them if they are provided with accommodation on school grounds. That's why 3 rooms are being added to the water reservoir tower. We hope to build more in the future.

We have now entered the rainy season. Heavy rains caused a lot of water to accumulate on the school grounds, not only in tanks but also on the playground. We do not have any drainage system as a result solid on the ground got torn up. We planted some grass and started some minor work – making pathways. We were able to make the pathway to the office and from the office to the area with flags, we also completed the pathway from the kitchen to one of the gates.
We had to repaint the exterior of the youngest kids' classroom as there were drawings and marks done by kids. We also bought another large mattress for the youngest children group. Furthermore, building work on the church has also started. This week, we plan to return to the church building and move the work forward a bit. Thank you most for your prayers and support. God is good, and with the following verse, I would like to encourage you and finish my letter.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 New International Version (NIV) ''..give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus''

New Year 2020

Greetings to you our friends

Every time we think of you we are so much grateful to our God for bringing you into our lives. We are so thankful for your constant love and support.
We are growing every day. Most likely because of your obedience to God who has call you to join your hands together with us. Thank you for your generosity.
We have started this new year with Christmas celebration party at school. We were able to prepare Christmas gifts for 200 kids. Every child received food in form of cooking oil, ugali flour, rice, beans, sugar, tea, Vaseline, washing soup and soap bar, followed by sweets and bis cuties. We can count this day as one of the greatest days in a year. Most of the kids received nothing during this special season, this time we thought to bless whole families by buying most necessary things used at home. At the end of the day everyone had a meal - a tropical African dish - pillao ,rice with meat.

We also had employed new teachers. Last year we miss 2 teachers, because we were not able to provide salaries to all. This year we really stretched and added 3 teachers so our headteacher has more time to focus on running the school.

As we wrote last time, we needed another class,in 4 weeks just before the academic year begun we had build up class number 5. God is so great.
We also completed the tower for the tank, during that time new idea pop out. Most of our teachers are from outside the village, they need accommodation, so we started to work on the rooms for them. We are planing to use the space on the tower and put 3 rooms for teachers. So far we managed to do one.

The borehole project is still undergoing, we need pomp installation which is very costly over 11000$, but before that we need to upgrade the power on the site, as the power we are using it is too low to run the pomp. Please stand with us in this particular prayer so we make this borehole work as soon as possible.
Back to us. We are doing well, though there were days where we have been failing with our heath but God was lifting us back.
Soon our family will travel to Poland, YES HARD TO BELIEVE, we took some time since last time visited my country. Already having some meetings arranged, so please stand with us in prayer for Gods protection and provision as we are going to move a lot.
I am hoping to see some of you during our visit. For now we want to thank you one more time for your love. Let keep in touch and encourage one another specially when the trial comes.
With much blessings
Mirka and Henry

If God is for us who can be against

Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ '' Ephesians 1;2
through our days are filled with joy and happiness.
It took some good time since I last communicated to you, some of you started to wonder probably what has been happening. Please receive our apology. It is quite challenge to take care of little baby and at the same time running project on the site, do administration work etc. But we thank God for all what has been going on, we thank God for our daughters who are doing well, who are very active every day and who keep us busy.
I don't know if you remember from last letter, we were to receive visitors from Poland? The team of 9 people arrived in August well and sound. All of them spent with us 3 good weeks running VBS with kids, teaching them new skills and sharing the gospel. Though it was a holiday from school, many kids turned up hungry and thirsty to hear the good news and learn new things. Unfortunately for our visitors all the bags arrived week later. It was real a challenge for us to do the work, no materials, no clothes and other things which were supposed to help  but because of Gods grace we did it, none of the visitors complained even once, there was no day we did not run our program.
Apart from that we also had a meeting with parents, where we shared the gospel to them - I am telling you many hearts been touched and we could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit wonder around us.

During this time we enlarged also our mini playground, Brother Marek and Pastor Andrew after busy days in classes sacrificed their afternoons to do this job. What a joy it was when everything was ready.
We also completed our fence on one side and now finishing putting fence on the other side.
We did not have an office before, for time being we were using kitchen store as a temporary room for our administration department. But God's grace is so sufficient, He provided funds and we put up an office for our headteacher. We are so proud of how God is taking care of us.

This is not all yet...

We have waited over 4 years for the borehole, dear ones we already done drilling and good news is that the water started to appear earlier not like report showed us. Instead of drilling 250m we finished drilling on 200meters, this caused the cost of drilling to lower down a bit and now we are putting up a tower where the tank will be places. We still need funds for buying and installing the pump and making the borehole work. Please join us in prayers in this particular area. We believe with God who is on our side we will make it.

For the first time in our history we had an official ending ceremony and graduation for our preschool pupils. It was such a blessed day,all graduated kids got a diploma, we also rewarded our best students and recognized some parents who has been  a big pillar (help) in our school, without their commitment and work it would be difficult for us.

Right now the kids are enjoying their holiday at home, some traveled to  visit relatives in town, some are still around waiting for next year to go back to school.
For now we do have only 4 primary classes, but from January we need another class. There is around 5 weeks left and we still pray for a miracle of provision. We need 7500$ for the class. I know we cant do anything unless God says yes and pour the rain of blessing. Please join us in prayers my loved ones ''….if God is for us who can be against''- Rom.8;31

Wining up this short letter i want to thank you each and everyone for standing with us, none of us is greater than other. Glory goes to God alone,we can be proud of ourselves only that we allowed God to used us for his purpose and though many challenges come up our way we stick to the word of God and push forward.
Thank you once again for your support and time.

Be blessed

May 2019

Dear friends

I do believe you and your loved ones are doing just great. Remember that even if life sometimes go harder don't give up. God says „the mountains and hills may crumble but my love for you will never end'' Isaiah 54:10
Personally this very scripture kept me going There are many challenges we go though, sometimes I feel like giving up, living in a foreign country with people from different culture, who have completely different understanding, it is tough. All in all i know I m not alone, God is with me. I thank Him so much for much grace and directions I receive from Him every single day. I thank God also for you who stand with us in this particular ministry. Without your impact would be difficult.

I am happy to share with you our progress. From the time I last communicated with you lot's of things been done. We managed to BEGIN working on the fence, got 2 gates and started to replace wired fence with bricks. The project is still under going as we  lack funds but believing in God's time will be finished.
Apart from that we completed another class . We noticed that many small children started to come, we did not have a room for them, they were mixed with older kids which was difficult for a teacher to managed all of them in one tiny room.
Now the class split into two, we had to employ another teacher who took over the little ones.
At this very moment we would love to have one more teacher for older kids but salaries are the biggest problem. We can't afford to pay extra teacher right now.

We build as well toilets for boys, glory to God for his provision and of course for your support.

The research for borehole been done not long ago. The report showed that water is deep down approximately 250m on a rocky ground. The estimated cost for drilling the borehole is beyond our pockets, that's why we created online fundraising to help us to collect needed amount. Every shilling is important. If we put hands together, invite other friends we will be able to make this dream come true. The good news it is : we already have over 2000$ for the borehole so it is not like we are starting from zero.

This season rains delayed a lot, in every corner people were struggling and lacking water. This also caused the prices of the food to shoot highly what made difficult not only for us but also for rest of the people.
We still don't have food support for all the kids, new semester just begun and we see more kids signing up for school. If anyone would like to support child ,buy him a meal please be in touch with us for more details.

Because of the weather changes we started to have running noses, catching up with cold and flu, please keep us in prayer so the Gods protection be upon all of us.

Not long from now we are expecting team from Poland coming over to continue working with children, sharing the good news and most likely love God poured into their hearts.
Please remember them in their prayers as they are preparing for this mission to come. May all their needs be met on time, may they do not lack heath and energy which will be needed here and may God uses every single person for His glory.

This is briefly to inform you what has been done and what is to come so you can continue to stand with us in prayer

With much love

Summary 2018

Dear brothers in Christ, friends and co workers each time we come before the throne of our Lord Jesus we lift you up in prayers thanking for you and asking to bless you all. Numbers 6;24-27

As we are finishing the year 2018, we would like to thank each one of you for being with us all the way through: thank you for your support, prayers and mostly thank you for your obedience to the Lord, without all that we would not be seeing what we see today and what you  hear from leaders or friends. Once again, thank you very much.
Every one of us has some impact in this ministry, none is better than others, no matter of what part you take in this project, all matters, God sees the heart of the giver and we can assure you He is very happy with that.
One year back hardly few kids had support, today this number has changed. We have reached up to 80 kids who have support and who are receiving meal at school every day.
School has grown with the number of kids, in the beginning of the year we had around 100 children, now we are closing with over 120 kids. God is great.
The kids in upper classes received  books and exercises, not everyone can afford buying them, specially in the remote areas.

In April this year God allowed us to finished building the kitchen, as you remember we had to cook under the tree accompanied by wind and sun, which was very difficult sometimes.
The same year we finished the bathroom for our visitors and recently started our own kitchen, hopefully we will be able to finish this soon as well.

In August we hosted the team of voluntaries who sacrificed their time and finances to become part of our project physically. We all have learn from each other a lot. Sometimes it was challenging but none was complaining.

Towards the end of the year we managed to completed the nursery for small children. Before that, the kids were studying from school made of iron sheets.

Also we are in a process of closing the compound, we don't have the gates yet but believing and trusting God for the provision in this project as well. Many people found a shortcut through the school compound, some  bring their animals to grass, and leave mess afterwards.

The school desks were not enough, and we also managed to get more which will help pupils in class 3 and class 4.

So far we had 4 teachers, which was far to less according to the ministry of education. After new year we are planing to add another 2 teachers. The salaries have been also a challenge to us, we do not receive any money from the government, this is our responsibility. W e would like to ask for prayers in this area because we know it is very hard to keep the teachers and fail to pay them at the end of the month.

If they are people among you who would like to support any child fully or to  buy his/her meal please contact us by email henrymirkakalume@yahoo.com or through
Light of the World International Foundation page.

We are about to start new year, as we search for new teachers we ask you to stand with us in prayers for God's provision for their salaries.

Once again thank you for sending us parcels with gifts, every time kids receive presents it make their days, you can see big smiles on their faces what speak for itself - the kids are enjoying.

As every year we did celebrate Christmas this year, all kids received gifts, was so much fun, some games and day ended followed up by a special meal, pillao and juice.

We were able to help to build houses for two families, who's kids are learning from our
school. The houses they stayed before collapsed and they had no other means of living. Thank you everyone for your contribution and help towards those families.
In summary as you see we did a lot. It is only through Gods grace and your help. Without all that nothing would be possible. We would like to encourage you to continue to stand with us in prayers and support as God guides all of us.

Not forgetting our small family we are thankful and happy for the blessing of the Lord, who gave us new born this year. The whole process of delivery went well, baby Lois was born healthy and sound. Thank you for your prayers.

Finishing this letter, we wish you all Merry Christmas and happy New Year. May God's grace be with us all.
Rejoice , because the King of kings was born.

But the Angel said to them: „Do not be afraid, I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David's town your Savior was born – Christ the Lord” Luk 2;10-11

September 2018

Dear friends and fellow co workers in Christ

We come before you today with a thankful heart. Again God has been good to us.
Last time we wrote  about camp preparations for the kids with our visitors from Poland, and I want to testify that we all had a wonderful time. Team of 8 people who came sacrificing their time and money in order to teach and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in our small school and left Kenya some weeks ago. All of them went home with a new experience they gained here in Kwademu. I am sure if we were to ask them, everyone would have something unique to say.

We would like  to say also  thank you to those who prayed for us, for the team and all the work which was going on here. Big thanks to the whole team, well done.
Every single person put some impact on the kids, none of them complain even once though the circumstances sometimes were not the best. The attitude they all had I would say it is the same attitude Christ had: humility, servant hood, obedience, patience, love... All what the bible teaches us today especially in Philippians 2: 5-11.

Kids loved it, we did not expected such a turn out. The camp took place during holiday but still most of the kids came back to school eager to learn and hear the gospel.

There was so much going on, kids did so much craft too, played games and had fun . Some parents and teachers came to help translating, cleaning after lessons without their help it would be difficult, but                                             God  took care of every single part.

If you remember well, we also wrote about nursery which we started to build. Now I am happy to say we are done most of it, remain plastering outside, small finishing and paintings in and out.

When I look back I still remember  how we began this ministry, trusting and hoping God for bigger things. Nothing much we had, but His word was our shield and accelerator to keep going.   I have to say without  God's  grace we would not reach where we are today.

Many times we look for excuses saying we can't do this, we are to weak, we don't have resources, we don't know the way, we are afraid of taking the step of faith... simply just to escape from the task BUT I say„ this little we say is much when God is in it”. We must not believe that our resources are too little to serve God for He delights in taking such humble person and uses him/her for His glory. God is ready to use ordinary things to create extraordinary things. Question is - are we ready?

God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong” 1 Corinthian 1;27

And because He  did things which were almost impossible for human mind, here we are  saying today to you

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth
Worship the Lord with gladness,
Come before Him, singing with joy
Acknowledge that the Lord is God...
...Enter his gates with thanksgiving
go into his court with praise
Give thanks to Him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good”   Psalm 100

Rejoice.

Our beloved friends

Once again, sorry for a long time not communicating with you. As you know we were expecting  baby sometimes in April, and happy to say that  baby Lois came into this World 2 days after due day. All went  very well and sound  though  in the beginning the nurses thought it is going to be a long labor but God who  has been always above all did amazing thing - shown  up and before I realized baby girl was born.
Right now Lois has finished 2 months, grown so fast (I believe all babies do so). For now I am mostly home nursing my little angel, not much movement for me as I would like.
Well there are different seasons in our life, I do believe.
Hannah is very happy for the fact of being a big sister,  she loves to help around with the baby. Though she is just 5 years old, she thinks she can do all things by herself including bathing her sister.

As I wrote not much movement for me at the moment, but it does not mean school has stop running. Things are in place and kids are still learning, praise the living God.

We had some remaining materials after completing the kitchen so we used them in order to put  the walls for the nursery (as you must know, the youngest kids have been learning still under the shelter). We trust and believe God for the remaining  materials.

In month of August we are expecting  team of 8 people. They are coming all the way from Poland and going to spend time with the kids, teach them and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. We humbly ask you to lift them up in your prayers as they are preparing themselves for this mission. May great God provide whatever they  still  missing. We want to bless them as they are sacrificing their time and finances to follow the voice of God.

All in all we give God glory for who He is, let us all be still and thankful not only for the big but also the little things we receive. I would say "Rejoice with the Lord, once again rejoice" Phlp 4: 4

much love
